Totally Awesome Kids (TAK)
Self Esteem Group
Strong social and emotional skills are important to have as we manoeuvre through life. These skills help us to get along with our siblings, classmates, develop successful friendships, handle difficult times, and help to build self-esteem and confidence.
Developing skills such as sharing, helping, following direction, conversation skills, manners, sympathy, empathy, problem solving and conflict resolution will benefit children throughout their life. Some children learn these skills quite easily through a combination of watching others, and reminders from parents and teachers. For others who may be shy, withdrawn, anxious or aggressive some additional support may be beneficial.
Through fun filled activities and role playing, positive reinforcement and correction, new social skills can be learned and enhanced, helping children to become more confident and competent as they move towards a stronger future
We offer a 6 week education group for children aged 5 – 13 years to help to build confidence, self esteem and develop social skills.
Participants in our self esteem group will learn how to:
- build rapport with peers
- identify what self esteem is
- identify their own feelings
- share reactions to and the impact of bullying
- learn strategies to deal with bullying
- recognising positive qualities in themselves
- learn ways to build relationships
- become familiar with giving and receiving compliments
- learn strategies to manage anger, know the anger rules, recognise triggers to anger, and develop body awareness
- Enhance feelings of self worth
The groups take place every school term and can accommodate up to 8 children.
