Anger Management Group
Transformers is a 6 week education group for children aged 5 – 13 years to help prevent, contain and resolve anger.
Although it is a completely normal human emotion, when anger gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems in school, with siblings, family and peer relationships and impinge on the child’s quality of life. Learning how to control anger is possible.
Participants in our anger management group will learn how to:
- Increase awareness of personal strengths
- Improve relationships and communication skills
- Identify and label feelings
- Reduce impulsive acting-out behaviours
- Monitor behaviour
- Develop alternative responses
- Increase awareness and consequences of negative behaviours
The groups take place every school term and can accommodate up to 8 children.
Entry Criteria
Parentline offers a service to children who have either suffered abuse or witnessed or experienced domestic violence.
Do you meet our entry criteria?
- Has your child experienced physical or sexual abuse?
- Has your child experienced emotional abuse or neglect?
- Has your child witnessed or experienced domestic violence?
Group Facilitators
All Parentline facilitators are qualified social workers or counsellors who are members of ANZASW or NZAC. All facilitators are experienced group facilitators and also do one on one work with children and families.
Each group will have two facilitators. Parentline operates a rotational group facilitation process to enable all facilitators to have in dept experience in each group programme.
Venue
All groups are held at Parentline House, 48 Palmerston Street Hamilton. However we are also able to deliver community based programmes. For more information about community based programmes please contact our Service Delivery Manager, on 07 839 4536.
Referral Process
For a child to access the group he / she will need to meet our entry criteria and apply at least one term before the commencement date to complete our assessment and intervention planning process. Children who access Parentline services can only access groups as a continuum of care which is part of a Stop Go therapy plan.
Term 1 start date: Tuesday 16th February 2010 (9.30-11.30am)
Term 2 start date: Not running
Term 3 start date: Tuesday 27 July 2010 (9.30-11.30am) – Numbers dependant
