Parentline
Serious about helping kids
Job Title: Caseworker
My passion is mental health, and in particular learning evidence-based therapeutic practices to help facilitate wellbeing. People in general fascinate me; how they think, what they value, and what they need to live a fulfilled and happy life.
Presently I am a Masters-level psychology student, with a specialisation in Behaviour Analysis. As I complete my Masters thesis, in 2022 I am also beginning a Postgraduate Diploma of Psychological Practice internship at Parentline to work towards my goal of becoming a registered psychologist in 2023.
I am working for Parentline because I believe that it will be a great place for me to apply my knowledge of psychology to assist members of the Waikato community, and to develop my practical skills in implementing a range of therapeutic modalities. All the staff here are fiercely passionate about going the extra mile for those who need it.
My work in mental health started in 2019, when I volunteered as a Youthline telephone counsellor down in Palmerston North, and received training in person-centred therapy. In this role I developed a strong sense of empathy for young people, and became compelled to do more to help them and their families. Last year I completed a practicum placement at Patricia Ave School working closely with a child with autism; this was immensely rewarding and confirmed to me that I should be doing this work.
In my spare time I am a music nerd, and make EDM beats on my computer. I play guitar and drums, and want to learn piano next! My dream is to build a home recording studio and release my own musical creations online. Music is my therapy!
